Some info

LONG DISTANCE SWIMMERS. The distance a sperm must travel to meet an egg is only about 15 centimeters. However, that journey is 3,750 times the length of a sperm cell. This would be comparable to a human swimming 64 km to reach their destination!
WHEN IS YOUR BIRTHDAY? In Korea and some other East Asian countries the age of a person is counted from time of conception, and not time of birth. So in these countries, by the time you are born you are already 9 months old!
LITTLE AND LARGE. The largest cell in the human body is the female egg (ovum) and the smallest is the male sperm; the ovum is typically large enough to be seen with the naked eye (approximately 1mm across), whilst the sperm cell is tiny, consisting of little more than nucleus.
NOT VERY GOOD ODDS.Each time a man ejaculates, he releases 200 - 400 million sperm. Only around 250 sperm will reach a woman's egg, and only one will fertilise it.
TWO YAMS PLEASE! Nigeria has the highest rate of twins in the world at around 4.5%. Some experts attribute this number to the large consumption of yams in Nigeria. It's also interesting to note that yams are a good source of folic acid which can help prevent neural tube defects during pregnancy.
WE ALL NEED TO START SOMEWHERE. Every human spent about half an hour as a single cell. All life has to begin somewhere, and even the largest humans spent a short part of their lives as a single celled organism when sperm and egg cells first combine.
TIMES CHANGE.It has become apparent over the last 40 years that women seem to be waiting longer before starting their families. In 1970 the average age for a first-time mother was about 21, but in today's world the age is 25-29. In recent years, there's also been a steep increase in women having their first child over the age of 35.
CHINESE GENDER CHART. Legend has it that the ancient Chinese believed in a 'Gender Chart' to predict their baby's sex. The chart is based on Chinese lunar age and Chinese lunar month at the time of conception. Earth, air, fire and water within the spirits of the parents-to-be are believed to influence their luck and, therefore, give them a baby of the gender they want! Download the Gender Chart
